Tribute

Walter “Brooks” Miller, 84, a lifelong resident of Liberty, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 25, 1939, in Liberty, Texas, the son of the late V.B. “Jack” and Katherine Eloise Abshier Miller.

Brooks graduated from Liberty High School with the Class of 1957. He pursued his passion for Industrial Electricity, earning his associate degree from Lamar State College of Technology in Beaumont in 1961. He dedicated his career to Liberty Electric, where he served as owner-operator until his well-deserved retirement in 2004.

A proud veteran, Brooks served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He completed the Artillery Survey Advanced Course in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and was stationed in Fort Hood's First Battalion 78 Artillery Regiment. His service was marked by excellence, and he earned decorations for expert (rifle) and sharpshooter (rifle M-14).

Brooks was a devout Christian, finding solace and strength in his faith. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church Liberty, where he married the love of his life, Dianne Bolling Miller, in 1966. He also served as the Past President of the Liberty Lions Club from 2010 to 2011, exemplifying his commitment to serving his community.

Beyond his professional and civic achievements, Brooks had diverse interests and talents. He found joy in outdoor pursuits such as hunting, fishing, tennis, golfing, and more artistic endeavors like sketching and painting. He cherished moments with his family, whether tending to their property, embarking on joy rides, or RV camping adventures.

Many described Brooks as kind, gentle, and compassionate. He was a gentle man who was a gentleman, touching the lives of all who knew him. His family was his pride and joy, and he left behind a legacy of love and devotion.

Brooks was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his sisters, Linda Lassiter and Carolyn Bass. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dianne Miller; his children, Laura Silagy and husband Eric of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Craig Miller of Liberty, and Amy Waller and husband Mark of Dayton; his grandchildren, Austin Miller, Maks Silagy, Hannah, Emily, and Abigail Waller; his niece, Jennifer Smith, and husband Darren of Winnie; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
