Melvia George- age 97 of Liberty passed away January 21, 2018 at Liberty Healthcare. Melvia was born February 12, 1920 in Balch, Arkansas the daughter of the late James B. Mathis and Fannie Lorton Mathis. Melvia was a homemaker but also worked for Royal Metal as an assembler for tables, chairs, and office furniture as a young woman. She was quiet, a lady of few words, who enjoyed listening to others. She was proud of her role as matriarch to her family. She also was a hard worker who enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She also was an active and devoted member to her Church of Christ family. Melvia was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband Charles A. George, son Jerry E. George, and she was the last of her ten brothers and sisters. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters: Fannie Cox of Wilmington, N.C.; Charlene Rhodes of Liberty; sons: Donald George wife Linn of Mexia, Texas; Steve George wife Norine of Kennesaw, GA.; a daughter in law: Judy George; twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. In addition she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.  A memorial service will be held 4PM Saturday February 10, 2018 at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N.
