Dorothy Louise (Lee) Brunet

December 18, 1926 ~ October 23, 2018 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Tribute

This world has lost a very loving and beautiful Christian woman.  The beloved Dorothy Louise Lee Brunet went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 23, 2018, in Liberty, Texas.

She was a lifelong resident of Southeast Texas.  Born in Ames on December 18, 1926, to John Wesley Lee and Amanda Whidden Lee, she was raised in Liberty and a graduate of Liberty High School Class of 1945.  She was an outstanding Christian, attending various Assembly of God churches in the area.  She was famous for her “Snowball Cake,” sought after by many at church gatherings.

For three years after graduation she worked as a telephone switchboard operator in Liberty, then moving to Beaumont, for work at the Lincoln Insurance Agency lasting twenty-eight years.  After the Lincoln office where she worked closed, she then went to work at the Jefferson County Courthouse, where she “was” the insurance department.  She retired from Jefferson County at the “young” age of 73.

In the year 2000, she married Larry Brunet, at the lovely, Strattlefork Farms, San Augustine, Texas.  She and Larry lived there for one and one-half years.  The couple then moved to Granada Lake, where they resided until 2009.  At that time they decided it was time to move into Liberty proper.  She remained in Liberty until her death.  Dorothy enjoyed her life with Larry, eating out, shopping, and going to church. She learned to drive a tractor, and she enjoyed the farm life in San Augustine, as well.

Dorothy loved her family, had a great appreciation of artwork, loved dolls, and especially loved her dogs.  She had many dogs throughout her life that provided her years of companionship.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved brother, Horace “Buddy” Eugene Lee; her sisters, Billie Lawrence, Hazel Williams, and Velma Majors; and niece Angela Smalley.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Larry E. Brunet;  a niece very special to her heart, Nelda Howard; nephews, John Lee, Scott Lee; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Larry would like to thank with all his heart the loving caregivers, niece-in-law Dina Tanner and Yolanda Mosley.  Also, thanks are given to the staff of Kindred Hospice, and especially to Kerry and Shelby, who gave so much wonderful care to Dorothy.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Allison Funeral Home, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas, on Friday, October 26, 2018, at 1 pm.  Services will be held after the viewing at 2 pm.   Dorothy will be laid to rest at the Fairlawn Cemetery, FM 563, in Liberty.  A special thanks to Pastor Darrell Brown and wife Dorothy Brown, for officiating at the service.  Condolences and memories can be shared online at www.allisonfuneralservice.com
