Elizabeth (Betsy) Chambers Koen died peacefully at her home in Liberty, Texas, on Sunday, December 13, 2020. She was 68 years old.
Betsy was born on May 20, 1952, at Mercy Hospital in Liberty, to Allan Chambers and Billie Blanche Mullins Chambers. Betsy attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Liberty and graduated from Liberty High School in 1970. After high school, Betsy attended Texas Tech University and College of the Mainland. Professionally, she specialized in bookkeeping across several industries, including many years at LaFour Minimax where her engagement with the community made her endearing spirit undeniable.
Betsy had one son, Thomas Alan Koen, Jr., born in 1976, who was the light and joy of her life. She and Thomas shared a passion for sports and were lifelong fans of the Astros, Rockets and NASCAR, highlighted by opportunities to meet Nolan Ryan, Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio and others. But their bond didn’t always require extravagant experiences; they equally enjoyed time at home watching episodes of The Dukes of Hazzard, CSI: Miami, NYPD Blue and Andy Griffith over and over again!
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ann Chambers Beavers and Peggy Chambers; partner, Ronald Moss; niece, Shelley Ann Beavers; and nephew, Reed Spiers. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: son, Thomas Alan Koen, Jr.; brother, Thomas Chambers (Lee); sister, Nancy Chambers (Larry Buchholz); nephews Tony Beavers and Andrew Chambers; and nieces Laurie Beavers Moreno, Paige Spiers Gorman and Elizabeth Arias Bond. She will also be dearly missed by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
The family will hold private graveside services and a public celebration of life will be scheduled in the Spring. The Chambers family extends heartfelt thanks to Tosha and Mary from Heart to Heart Hospice for their tender care and to Betty Jo, Becky and Tommy Koen and family for their endless support and love.
