Joy Kay Brown McManus – age76 went to be with her Lord March 7, 2018 in Houston, Texas. She was born in Hardin, Texas August 28, 1941 the daughter of the late Nolan Brown and Amma Williamson Brown. Joy Kay worked at the Liberty County Courthouse for forty years in various positions. For twenty of those years she held the elected office of District Clerk of Liberty County. Joy Kay enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of her family farm. She also enjoyed traveling and politics. She was a devoted member of the Hardin Baptist Church and had a deep faith. She also was a member of the Eastern Star and the Dorcas Class at Hardin Baptist Church. Her smile and laugh could light up a room. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted husband of fifty-seven years Bobby McManus of Hardin, her daughter Brenda Fairchild and husband Chip of Hardin, son Brent McManus of Hardin, sister Juanita Phillips of Jefferson, TX., brothers Lamar Brown and wife JoAnn of Bullard, TX. and James Nolan Brown and his wife Judy of Tyler, TX. In addition she leaves her four grandchildren Rob Jones and wife Amber, Lacy McKay Hughes and husband Justin, Abby Ruth Jones, and Lexy McManus as well as one great-granddaughter Hadley Laura Jones. In addition she leaves a host of other relatives and dear friends. She will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Visitation for Joy Kay will be held Friday March 9, 2018 from 5-8PM at Hardin Baptist Church. Funeral services to be held 10AM Saturday March 10, 2018 at Hardin Baptist Church with burial to immediately follow in Hardin Chapel Cemetery. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Houston Methodist Hospital , especially Shawna Harrison for her care, support, and friendship, as well as a special thank you too Tandy Clements of Bayview Home Care for her compassion and care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joy Kay’s memory to the Hardin Baptist Scholarship Fund, PO BOX 314 Hardin, Texas 77561.
