Marvin Eric McCallister, age 85, passed away on Sunday, September 16, following a bout of pneumonia. He had battled heart and lung diseases for many years.

Marvin was born June 22, 1933 in Sellersburg, Indiana to Lewis and Valteena McCallister. He and his twin sister were the youngest of nine children. Soon after his birth, the family traveled to Foley, Alabama where they purchased 40-acres of land and began homesteading. Marvin and his father and brothers were all very resourceful and masterful in carpentry and mechanics. They often invented and built their own tools and equipment.

He began work in the steel and auto industries in Detroit, Michigan right after high school. He was soon drafted for service in the Army during the Korean War and served eight years in Germany and Italy in Transportation Division. It was in Italy where he met and married his wife of 53 years, Giannina.

Following his military service, he worked many jobs, most notably for a paper mill, a shipyard, and an aircraft engine manufacturer in Mobile, Alabama. He was a very talented automobile mechanic as well. He and his wife relocated to Liberty, Texas upon retirement to be near their only child and her family.
