Melton B. ‘Lucky’ Murphy, 72, of  Raywood, Texas passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 9, 1946 in Pasadena, Tx to MB Murphy and Alice Pearl Kuykendall Murphy.

Lucky worked for over thirty years as an Oil Field engineer at Schlumberger. The last several years, he has worked at Baytown Sand & Clay and Allison Funeral Service. He was a graduate of Liberty Highschool, class of 1964. Lucky served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era and has been an active member of the Nolan D. Pickett VFW Post 5621 and Dayton American Legion Post 512. Lucky was an amazing man with a strong work ethic. He loved his family especially his grandchildren. He was a history buff and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of all things military. Lucky loved talking to people. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed swapping stories. Always leaving others with a smile. In his spare time you could find him watching John Wayne movies and clicking the TV remote to change the channel. He was someone you could depend on and trust. Lucky will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Lucky was preceded in death by his parents and sister Glenda Pearl Murphy. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of fifty one years, Linda Johnson Murphy; son David Murphy; daughter Melissa Whittaker and husband Timothy; son Alan Murphy and wife Kim; sisters Laura Moore and husband Douglas and Shanna Bonvillian. In addition, he leaves grandsons Charles Dwayne Whittaker, Jett Tyler Murphy, Dakota Bryan Whittaker, Bryan Tyler Murphy; granddaughters Alana Reed Murphy, Brooklyn Taylor Murphy; great-grandson Easton Scott Henderson and numerous other loving relatives and friends.

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers are Charles Whittaker, Dakota Whittaker, Jett Murphy, David Murphy, Timothy Whittaker and Ray Smith. Honorary pallbearers are David Allison, Judge Ronnie Davis, Bryan Murphy, John Fisher, Ray Chenault, Jimbo Arnold, Wayne Hardin, Tommy Chase, Brian Bendele, Jr. McMillen and Schlumberger employees. Chaplin David Cross will be officiating. 

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5-8pm on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in the chapel of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas 77575. Funeral services will be held 2pm on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 in the chapel of Allison Funeral Service. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Cooke Memorial Cemetery in Liberty.
