Tribute

RUTH C EDMONDS, 91, also known to her grandchildren as “Nanny on the Wall” passed away Saturday April 13th 2019 with all her family by her side. She was born in Mount Hope, West Virginia on June 3rd, 1927. Ruth attended Mount Vernon High School in Virginia where she met her husband. Ruth married her husband, Lee Edmonds, on November 11, 1945 in Fairfax, Virginia. They were married when Ruth was 18 and they spent 59 years together. She worked at Fort Belviour as a registrar for the Department of the army for 33 years. One of her duties was to write Congressional medals of Honor. Ruth and Lee had two children, Janyce Lee and David Edmonds. They moved to Texas in 1992 to be close to their family.

Ruth loved being around her family. She enjoyed painting, singing, cooking, and sipping martinis in her younger years but of course she never got out of hand with it. Her later years she enjoyed watching the news, the game show network, and staying up to date with current events by reading the newspaper. Nanny on the wall was the true definition on what a lady should be, you never saw her without her lipstick on and her hair in place. She had the sweetest soul and only saw the good in everyone around her.

Ruth Edmonds is preceded in death by her husband Lee C Edmonds, mother Maude Beatrice, step-mother Lucy Pearl Johnson, father Onia Johnson, sister Deanie Johnson, brother Bobby Johnson, close family friend Robert “Bob” Haas, and grand- daughter Tammy Lynn Lucas.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Janyce Lee and husband Michael, son David Edmonds and wife Maria. Her grandchildren Steven Lucas and wife Patty, Darren Lucas, Brian Edmonds, Rickey Lucas, Davie Edmonds, Ginger Hendricks and husband Olyn, Lisa Ames and husband Greg, Angel Castor and husband Tommy, Jennifer Perez and husband Lawrence, and Valerie Berry and husband Vance. She had 30 great-grandchildren and 34 great great grandchildren.

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers are Steven Lucas, Darren Lucas, Rickey Lucas, Brian Edmonds, David Edmonds and Olyn Hendricks.
