SHIRLEY D. MEACHAM HAIDUSEK

Died February 15, 2019

Shirley D. Meacham Haidusek passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 15, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was 80 years old.

Shirley was one of five girls and one brother born to Alfred E. and Wilda Meacham. In 1957 she graduated from Dayton High School, where she played basketball and was the FFA Sweetheart. She worked as an airline stewardess before marrying her classmate, Charles Haidusek, in 1959. Once Charles completed his service in the U.S. Navy, they moved back to Dayton and began a rice farming business. Shirley worked as a secretary for DISD Superintendent Lloyd Gilbert, then worked in the DISD tax office for Bo Robinson. She also owned Dayton Jewelry and Gifts for several years. Shirley served on the city councils in Kenefick and Devers and frequently served as an election judge. She loved history, genealogy, sewing, quilting, reading, and flowers.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Red and Wilda Meacham; her husband, Charles Haidusek; her infant son, Charles Randolph; her brother, Mel Meacham; one sister, Ella Rose Crisp; her niece Cathy McGinty; her nephew Bubba White; and her great-nephew Garrett Haidusek. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Lee Haidusek Chambers, and her husband, Tommy; her son, Charles Andrew “Andy” Haidusek, and his wife, Harrabeth; her grandchildren: Colin King; Andrew Haidusek and his wife, Adrienne; Adrienne Haidusek Adams and her husband, Jeff; Julianne Haidusek; and Andrew Chambers and his wife, Sherry; four great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ouida Hopkins, Wilda McGinty, and Paula Olguin and her husband, Jorge; her husband’s brothers: Paul “Bubba” Haidusek and his wife, Bette, and Donnie Haidusek and his wife, Cathy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 23, 2019, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 331 Vera Lane in Liberty. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Magnolia Cemetery in Dayton, Texas.
