Robert Allen Wiggins
October 5, 1942 ~ February 3, 2017 (age 74) 74 Years OldShare Tribute:
Robert Allen Wiggins – “Bob” to those who knew him best – passed away peacefully Friday, February 3, 2017, in Liberty, Texas, while in the loving company of his immediate family after a four-year battle with cancer. He was 74 years old.
The first-born son of the late Ola Ray and B.A. Wiggins, Bob was born October 5, 1942, in Raleigh, Mississippi, and spent his boyhood hunting in the woods of rural Smith County. He gave his heart to Jesus at the age of eight, walking the aisle of Goodwater Baptist Church to the hymn “Just As I Am.”
Bob served three years in the U.S. Army, garnering several awards, including the Expert Marksmanship Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. He also gained notoriety and favor as “The General’s Fair-Haired Lad” as his marksmanship skills kept the General in plenty of pheasant and quail.
After the Army, Bob attended the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating in 1968. He was promptly recruited by Humble Oil in Baytown, Texas, where he worked for five years before partnering with Mr. Paul Arnold to start their own accounting business in 1973. Wiggins & Smith continues to serve Liberty and surrounding counties.
Bob lived a full, blessed life, pursuing a multitude of hobbies: hunting, fishing, tennis, golf, sporting clays, water skiing, snow skiing, and motorcycles. He enjoyed tending a small vegetable garden, and was partial to custom-made cowboy boots, machines built for speed, a good merlot, and numbers. He found much happiness and fulfillment in his accounting and tax work.
Bob loved to share his insight. He had a zest for life and a passion for excellence. Powerful in prayer, Bob could speak a commanding rebuke against the darkness, or the most beautiful blessings; the words flowed easily and gave comfort to many.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; he leaves behind his wife of seven years, Maria Wiggins of Liberty, Texas; his daughter Julie Wiggins Narvaez and her husband Marcus of Crosby, Texas; his daughter Susan Wiggins Hart and her husband George of Long Beach, California; sisters Mary Alice Ammons of Clinton, Mississippi and Judy Stewart of Purvis, Mississippi; and many longtime friends.
